When Italian banker and visionary Gian Franco Brignone flew over the rugged cliffs of Careyes, Mexico, in the 1960s, he had a vision for the jungle-encased shores,\u00a0whose beaches<\/a>\u00a0were only accessible by plane. The result, 50-plus years later: a nine-mile coastline punctuated by private villas and cliffside castles that has earned the nickname \u201cMexico\u2019s\u00a0Positano<\/a>.\u201d But the similarities between Careyes and the Amalfi Coast stop there. \u00a0<\/p>

Sure, the destination is considered a jet-set one; it draws well-heeled hippies, designers, and celebrities like Tom Ford, Cindy Crawford, and Mick Jagger. And the crowd coming here doesn\u2019t want to see and be seen\u2014although, the fashion on display during annual events like multi-sensory art and music festival\u00a0Ondalinda<\/a>, Mexico\u2019s more exclusive version of Burning Man, is worth the visit alone.\u00a0<\/p>
